JARRY STREET
Vincennes, 2023-2025
As part of the development of public spaces, the city of Vincennes wishes to renovate Rue de la Jarry, turning it into a “vélo-rue” dedicated to pedestrians and cycles. This 750-meter-long thoroughfare in the east of the city serves several major facilities: from the town hall, it leads to the new high school and the Isabelle Autissier gymnasium, to the Place Diderot and its market, and the technical municipal center. The project aims to widen the sidewalks to make more room for pedestrians, while increasing the amount of green space to improve the living conditions of the existing trees, all of which will be preserved. All rainwater from the 8,500 m² of developed area will be directed to rain gardens, which will feed the trees and enhance the urban sponge effect. Careful consideration has been given to the paving, with the black asphalt being replaced by light-colored paving that increases the albedo and allows for a further reduction in street temperatures.
