Ministry of agriculture garden
Paris, 2020-2026
The redesign of 3/5 rue Barbet de Jouy for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, creates a space opened on the street and protected from intrusions. A fencing and planting system creates a blurred boundary, which disrupts the perception of the garden from the outside; it is made of an iron fence, lined with a high hedge of densely planted shrubs. This vertical grid creates a kinetic effect for the passer-by, animating the walk in the street and securing the outside look.
The permeable surfaces at the heart of the block are increased to bring freshness and quality to the visitor’s experience of the place. The plantings are diversified to suggest the activities of the Ministry: the wood edge that materializes the entrance, the meadow with its apple and pear orchard and the Mediterranean field. All the rainwater from the garden feeds the meadow, forming a temporary pond.
